Mending Lucille by J R Poulter will be published by Hachette in June 2008. It’s a poetic and haunting story about a little girl whose mother leaves on a plane and never comes back – and only the little girl’s mother knows how to mend her broken doll, Lucille. The story follows the little girl and her father as they come to terms with what has happened and eventually recover from their loss. The stark, beautiful text deals with a difficult idea subtly and sensitively, and really captures the surreal feeling that overwhelms you as a small child when things go badly wrong and no adequate explanations are given. Shawn sheep will be released by Velopress in June 2008. Here’s the write-up from the promo:
“Shawn Sheep may be the best soccer player on his team, but he still has a thing or two to learn about teamwork. When it comes time for the biggest match of the season, Shawn’s antics just might get him into trouble he never bargained for.”
The Barnsville series was written by Olympic cyclist Erin Mirabella, and follows the ups and downs of a group of sports-mad farm animals.
